Dude, That Isn't Wax on Your Apple!
After spotting a video of a plastic film being peeled off romain lettuce, I was reminded of being told in the 1990's that McDonald's salads had a plastic spray applied to it. The McDonald's salads could sit on display for a month, I was told. This article cites McDonald's in 1995 being the first to use this technology of applying a plastic film to fresh produce. It's not unlike the aspect of wax on the apple to keep it fresh (and tasting crappy), but who wants to eat anything but the food they put in their mouth?
